आज देखा है जो तुझ को तो बहार आई है
दुःख तो हैं, दर्द भी हैं, पर शबे रानाई है
इस ज़माने के, लिए बारे गरां, दर्दो अलम
तेरी आँखें ही फिर आज शामे क़रार लाईं हैं
क्या सुनाएँ तुझे हाले दिले तन्हा ऐ दोस्त
तेरे होने ही से तो आलमे तन्हाई है
तेरे आने का सबब आया समझ में यारा
दिल के ज़ख्मों को कुरेदे, यह मसीहाई है

آج دیکھا ہے جو تجھ کو تو بہار آئی ہے
دکھ تو ہیں، درد بھی ہیں، پر شبِ رعنائی ہے
اِس زمانے کے، لیے بارِ گراں، درد و الم
تیری آنکھیں ہی پھر آج شامِ قرار لائی ہیں
کیا سنائیں تجھے حالِ دلِ تنہا اے دوست
تیرے ہونے ہی سے تو عالمِ تنہائی ہے
تیرے آنے کا سبب آیا سمجھ میں یارا
دل کے زخموں کو کریدے، یہ مسیحائی ہے

aaj dekhaa hai jo tujh ko to bahaar aayee hai
dukh to hain, dard bhee hain par shabe raanaayee hai
is zamaane ke, liye baar-e-garaan, dard-o-alam
teree aankhein hee phir aaj shaam-e-qaraar laayee hain
kyaa sunaayen tujhe haal-e-dil-e-tanhaa ai dost
tere hone hee se to aalam-e-tanhaayee hai
tere aane kaa sabab aayaa samajh mein yaaraa
dil ke zakhmon ko kurede, yeh maseehayee hai
English translation
To see you today has been to experience spring
It has brought pain and suffering, yet made the night beautiful
Even as they remind of the heavy burdens and misfortunes of this existence
Your eyes turn the evening into one of repose
What, my friend, can I tell you about the state of my lonely heart
It is your presence that causes my world to turn lonely
I am now beginning to comprehend the reason for your coming
To open the wounds of my heart is to be my healer
