उनकी हर बात गवारा है हमें आज कि वो
लगता है माइल-ए-इज़हार हुए जाते हैं।
वो हमीं थे कि न आया था शऊर-ए-ग़म-ए-ज़ीस्त
वरना हर सफ़्हे पे इसरार हुए जाते हैं।
अब खुली जाती है तशरीह-ए-बहिश्त-ओ-दोज़ख़
सुबह होने को है बेदार हुए जाते हैं।
अपनी चाहत ने इक एक ज़र्रे को ख़ुर्शीद किया
मेहर-ओ-माह अपने निगहदार हुए जाते हैं।

غم خوشی دونوں سے بیزار ہوئے جاتے ہیں
غم خوشی دونوں سے بیزار ہوئے جاتے ہیں
اب سماں یہ کہ وفادار ہوئے جاتے ہیں
ان کی ہر بات گوارا ہے ہمیں آج کہ وہ
لگتا ہے مائلِ اظہار ہوئے جاتے ہیں
وہ ہم ہی تھے کہ نہ آیا تھا شعورِ غمِ زیست
ورنہ ہر صفحے پہ اصرار ہوئے جاتے ہیں
اب کھلی جاتی ہے تشریحِ بہشت و دوزخ
صبح ہونے کو ہے بیدار ہوئے جاتے ہیں
اپنی چاہت نے اِک ایک ذرّے کو خورشید کیا
مہر و ماہ اپنے نگہدار ہوئے جاتے ہیں
Roman transliteration
Gham khushi donon se bezaar hue jaate hain
Ab samaan yeh ki vafaadaar hue jaate hain.
Unkee har baat gavaaraa hai hamein aaj ki woh
Lagta hai maayil-e-izhaar hue jaate hain.
Woh hameen the ki na aaya tha shaoor-e-gham-e-zeest
Varna har safhe pe israar hue jaate hain.
Ab khulee jaatee hai tashreeh-e-bihisht-o-dozakh
Subha hone ko hai bedaar hue jaate hain.
Apnee chaahat ne ik ek zarre ko khursheed kiya
Mehr-o-maah apne nigahdaar hue jaate hain.
English translation
Joy and sorrow are no longer anchors of my experience
I now exist in a state of surrender and faith
Today, I will welcome whatever she might say
For I sense in her an inclination to speak her heart.
It was I who walked around, oblivious to the sorrow of life
When life was insistent on reading me the truth on every page
It is now that the meaning of heaven and hell becomes clearer
As dawn approaches, the slumber is beginning to dissipate.
Our love has turned every particle it touched into the radiant sun
The Sun and the Moon themselves have become our guardians.
